Economics

One truly fascinating way to view travel is through economics, and specifically, what kind of financial impact a trip is likely to make upon its host.

  • Occasionally when I traveled, it turns out that was geographically in the political epicenter of an issue that will continue to unravel after my visit was over. This situation can provide an extra layer of memories that is added to the trip in hindsight.
  • I vote with my tourist dollars as a traveler. If I visit a country with a questionable government, I have to be careful to ensure that the money I use to get to and from the country, as well as money for any food, activities, or lodging while in that country goes directly to the citizens. Sometimes in doing so, it means things can change for the better.
